I’m first to admit that I do not know everything but will try to figure things out if the challenge is there for me to solve. Today I received a question if it was possible to retrieve images from a memory stick (flash drive) if accidentally formatted and my answer was no there is not. NOT because I didn’t want to help but because I really didn’t think you could and once told “Memory can’t be lost just like that in a snap”! That is all I needed to find out and the challenge was ON! Well I was able to find out you could and it was possible AND BAM! YES YOU CAN. Here are the steps you need and the file link to download the software needed to do this:

First Download this file and extract:

Step: 1

Once you have downloaded file please go to the directory where the files was saved and/or extracted and click on the following file: "photorec_win.exe"

Step: 2

Make sure you select the correct drive with your keyboards up and down keys. Most of the time it will show up saying it's USB Flash Drive. If not sure just check for the smallest disk space on the drive "MB" or "GB" like in picture below. Then press enter.

Step: 3

Now select the one that says "Whole disk" since I'm not sure what you want to recover but it's safe to say all of it just in case! Then press enter.

Step: 4 

Select other and then press Enter.

Step: 5

This step is asking where should the files be saved once recovered which would be saved on the same directory as the Recovery files are in but should create a folder called "recup_dir". Then press "C" on your keyboard and it should start the recovering process.

Step: 6

Once recovery is complete just look in the same folder where this program was extracted and look for a folder called "recup_dir" and BAM!!
